Lacie's Background

Lacie had emergency surgery for a brain tumour back in 2021, she spent 8 months in hospital,  and the treatment has left her with life altering changes.

Lacie is in a wheelchair, she suffers ataxia so her coordination can be a struggle daily, poor muscle control affects walking and balance, hand coordination, and speech. Lacie has to be aided with everything in her day-to-day routine, and this care is provided by her Mum and Dad. She has had a massive lifestyle change which has impacted her confidence and her personality, and whilst she has regained most of her speech, it is slurred due to the facial paralysis.

Due to the young ages of Lacie’s siblings and the level of care Lacie requires, both parents had to give up their jobs, and the financial impact of this meant going on holiday was not possible.

The Dream

This is where Dreams Come True came in! We arranged a holiday in Blackpool for Lacie and her family back in August 2023, but just days before they were due to travel , they had the terrible news that she needed emergency treatment again.

18 months of extensive chemosurgery and hospital treatments followed, but finally, last month , Lacie travelled from Northern Ireland to Blackpool for her dream holiday at Haven.

Throughout the blog post you can see Lacie when she was first referred to us, packing the night before the trip, during her holiday, and fast asleep on the way home.

The Impact

Mum said they had an amazing time and there were lots of tears when they had to leave the holiday resort.

Lacie will continue to require treatment throughout her life, but in the meantime how wonderful that Dreams Come True were able to give them an amazing week and some wonderful memories.
